One of the country’s top snowboarders, Kevin Pearce, has been forced to spend the Winter Olympics watching the games from his room in a brain-injury facility following a serious accident in January. Pearce was at one time considered to be one of the front-runners for Olympic gold and top challenger to current champion Shaun White. A serious accident on the half-pipe on New Year’s Eve left Pearce in a coma for weeks, and he has only recently begun to re-learn how to walk and talk.
